The work
The painting portrays a sculpture, and the sculpture is her own: it is «Sen nocy letniej», the mahogany of 1977, recognisable piece by piece — the window in the board, the recesses sunk in the block, the pale cone on the top, the ears above. Here it is seen from three quarters, from the side on which it looks like a chair.
What changes is the place. In the painting the object stands out of doors, on a circular platform paved with cobbles, under a sky of clouds; from the right a great white veil crosses the scene and knots itself below. The cobbles give it a scale the sculpture does not have.
