The work
A sphere of bronze opens halfway like a shell: the lid tipped back shows the inner face, gilded and smooth, and on that plane lies a newborn child, minute against the form that contained it. Outside the patina is dark and matt, inside it is bright — the opening is also a passage from darkness into light.
Birth is a subject Antonina returns to more than once through the eighties, and more than once by the same means: the bronze that opens.
