The work
A trunk a metre forty tall, roughed out into a figure: the head is a smooth cap above two barely marked shoulders, the body a chamfered prism, and on the chest a stepped relief that reads as a staircase or as a house seen edge-on. The catalogue title is «Dom», house; the prize it wins records it in full — «Mój dom», my house.
It is the work she returns to Belluno with in November 1994, for the ninth Ex Tempore, a year after the tear awarded at the eighth. In a photograph from that week she stands beside the freshly finished wood, under the white awning of her station, the arcades of the square behind her and the shavings at the foot of the trunk.
