The work
A child’s hand pressed into clay: it is Albert’s, her son’s, at four years old, and his mother takes it as one takes a cast — she does not model it, she lets it enter. It dates from 1976, the same year as the pastel that portrays him at the same age.
The gesture of pressing a hand into soft material runs through all her work: it is in the ceramic valves of the cycle of archaeological finds, it returns in the great wooden hands of 1971, and she herself will call it, many years later, «my fingerprints in sculpture».
