The work
A disc split by a thin fault that runs through it from top to bottom. On the left the surface is smooth, barely scored by a few oblique incisions; on the right it seethes with a matter of tongues and ridges. The title says what separates the two halves: «Oczyszczenie przez ogień do tekstu Dantego», purification by fire, after Dante’s text — the second Dantesque bronze after the way to heaven of 1986. It is the year the artist takes part in the VIII Biennale Internazionale del Bronzetto Dantesco at Ravenna, where she shows another disc, which the Italian catalogue prints under the title «Fuoco».
