The work
A mahogany bust crossed by a tear that runs down between head and chest: rozdarty, torn. The face stays still and severe — it is the impersonal face shared by the wooden busts of these years, polished to a mirror — while the body opens. Trybowski lists the two side by side in 1988, among the expressive busts: next to this one stands Scalona, the re-joined, where the split passes through the face and brass holds it together.
