Medal 25 lat TPSP

The medal for the twenty-five years of the Society of Friends of the Fine Arts in Warsaw: on the bronze, below, runs a ribbon carrying the dates «1959 – 1984», and around it pass parallel bands and a square meander sunk into the flank. She designs it in November 1983, and of that design everything survives — it is one of the rare pieces of her medallic work in which the road from the drawing to the casting can be followed entire.

It begins on a poor scrap of paper: three roundels one above the other, traced in light pencil. In the first a ribbon crosses the field diagonally, carrying the two dates above a stepped structure; in the second a stair rises to a platform; in the third a tapering form, knotted at the centre. They are three roads, and from there they divide.

The third becomes an eye. On a finished sheet, modelled in pencil until it looks like a relief, the two faces of the medal each carry a great open human eye in a crown of fleshy lobes, with the inscription «XXV LAT TPSP W WARSZAWIE» in an arc along the edge. It is the finest of the three versions, and no casting of it is known.

The one that was cast is the first: parallel bands, square meander, ribbon with the lettering — the same three elements that are read in relief on the bronze. On that sheet the two discs stand side by side, and the text is shared between them as on a real medal: the inscription on one face, the dates on the other. The photograph shows the face with the dates; the other we know from the drawing.

In 2009 the bronze is in a case at the «Przemijanie» exhibition in Siedlce.
