The work

An open palm emerges from the bronze, the fingers still sunk in the material: a gesture arrested — greeting, defence, testimony. It is 1982, and the title entrusts the memory to an initial: «Emil B.» is Emil Barchański, the Warsaw schoolboy who died that year at sixteen, the youngest victim of martial law in Poland.

The Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej at Orońsko acquires the bronze as early as 1983. For the same boy Antonina also signs the gravestone in the Bródno cemetery: two distinct works, which her CV lists separately.
