The work
Two halves of mahogany born from a single block: the broken edges fit together tooth for tooth, and the split runs through the faces carved on each of them. On the left-hand half a split in the wood is stitched by four metal cramps.
The two parts are not fixed to a base and can be set down in more than one way. The catalogue of the 1999 Warsaw solo exhibition puts them on its cover, cut out and set apart on the grey ground.
