The work
Recollection takes here the form of a bust in black oak, the hardest wood the artist ever worked — a wood that, as she will tell it years later, has sand inside it; she works at it for nearly six months, beginning with a drawing in a notebook, so as not to waste a gram of it. The arms open like the flaps of a tent and shelter, cast in bronze, two small joined hands.
